Montreal Canadiens Alumni vs the Oliver Big Horns

The Oliver & District Arena is turning 50 years old in 2019! To kick off the year-long celebration of this special milestone, Oliver Parks and Recreation will host the Montreal Canadiens Alumni team at a charity hockey game on February 8. Following a special opening ceremony and puck drop, the Canadiens will face off against the Oliver Big Horns, a team made up of local players for 3 periods of Canada’s favourite game to the enjoyment of fans and families in the stands. All proceeds from the event will go towards the much-needed capital improvements to the Oliver & District Arena, tentatively scheduled for 2020.

Montreal Canadiens Alumni Team
# 33 RICHARD SÉVIGNY He played 8 years in the NHL with Montreal Canadiens and Quebec Nordiques. Won the Vezina trophy in 1980-81 and a Stanley Cup with the Montreal Canadiens.
# 6 OLEG PETROV Petrov was drafted by the Montreal Canadiens in the 1991 NHL Entry Draft and became the first Russian to play for the team, where he scored 72 goals and 115 assists for a total of 187 points. He won a Stanley Cup in 1993 with the Montreal Canadiens.
# 15 GLEN METROPOLIT This centreman played 8 seasons in the NHL for 7 different team including Boston, Philadelphia and Montreal. He spent an additional 10 years in Europe playing in the Finnish Elite League, Switzerland, Germany and most recently in Austria. He played two seasons with the Montreal Canadiens.
# 22 JOHN SCOTT He played 8 years in the NHL. He won the NHL fan voting for the 2016 All-Star game where he won the All-Star game MVP.
# 25 MATHIEU DANDENAULT A 13 year NHL career, 4 of which were with the Montreal Canadiens. A winner of 3 Stanley Cups with the Detroit Red Wings. He also won a gold medal at the World Jr Hockey Championship in 2003.
# 26 PIERRE DAGENAIS He had a 133 point season in 60 games in his last junior year with Rouyn-Noranda in 1997-98. He played 5 years in the NHL, with New Jersey, Florida and Montreal.
# 29 JESSE BELANGER In his 9 seasons in the NHL, he won the Stanley Cup with Montreal Canadiens which he played for 3 seasons. He set league records with HC Biel (Switzerland) in 2006 with 21 goals and 37 points in 15 playoff games.
# 43 MIKE WEAVER He played 14 years in the NHL with Atlanta, LA, Vancouver, St. Louis, Florida and Montreal. He spent his final two seasons in Montreal before retiring in 2015.
# 47 MARC ANDRÉ BERGERON Known for his slapshot, he had a 10 year career in the NHL with Edmonton, New York, Anaheim, Minnesota, Montreal, Tampa Bay and Carolina. He is currently the Director of player development for the Shawinigan Cataracts.
# 71 PATRICE BRISEBOIS Recipient of the Jean Béliveau Trophy in 2009, this defenseman had an 18 year career in the NHL, 14 of which were with the Montreal Canadiens with whom he won a Stanly Cup in 1993. He is now heavily involved in automobile racing.
COACH STEVE SHUTT With his linesmates Jacques Lemaire and Guy Lafleur he scored 60 goals in the 1976-77 season. He won 5 Stanley Cups. He was inducted to Hockey Hall of Fame in 1993.
