Recreation Assistant

An employment opportunity exists with the Oliver Parks and Recreation Society for a Recreation Assistant.


Under the supervision of the Recreation Supervisor, the Recreation Assistant will be responsible for providing support to a variety of recreation programs and special events, managing volunteers and providing customer service through the recreation office.
Hours of work and rate of pay are in accordance with the Collective Agreement between the Oliver Parks & Recreation Society and the Canadian Union of Public Employees Local #608. The starting wage is $20.28/hour plus 6% in vacation pay upon completion of the probation period. The Recreation Assistant is a permanent part-time position scheduled on a flexible work week of three days a week (21 hours) unless otherwise agreed to between the employee and management. The employer will provide benefits on a pro-rata basis calculated on the hours of work in accordance to Article 26.10 in the Collective Agreement.
The work will involve organizing and producing community-based events, assisting program instructors (set-up/take-down of tables, chairs, various equipment) and addressing the needs of the customers, clients and fellow staff. The successful candidate would need to be able to work independently, be able to prioritize and manage multiple tasks.


• Completion of a recognized diploma in Recreation/Education/Tourism or related field
• 1 year related experience or an equivalent combination of education and experience
• Valid BC Driver’s License- Class 5/ First Aid Certificate
