FACILITY MAINTENANCE WORKER

A seasonal employment opportunity exists with the Oliver Parks & Recreation Society for the outside position of Facility Maintenance Worker.

The work will involve physical labour, operation of vehicles and equipment, park maintenance, facility maintenance and other related duties. Candidates are required to be in good physical condition and must have a valid BC Driver’s License.

Hours of work and rate of pay are in accordance with the Collective Agreement between the Oliver Parks & Recreation society and the Canadian Union of Public Employees Local #608.

Shifts will eight (8) hours per day for five (5) consecutive days, followed by two (2) consecutive days of rest. Seasonal term will be within, but not limited to, the dates of Friday, April 15 to Monday, October 3, 2016. Rate of pay is $23.75/hour plus 6% in lieu of vacation.

SEASONAL LIFEGUARD INSTRUCTOR

An employment opportunity exists with the Oliver Parks & Recreation Society for seasonal lifeguard instructors from May – September 2017.

The work will involve lifeguarding, swim lesson instruction, facility maintenance and other related duties at the Oliver Community Pool.

Hours of work and rate of pay are in accordance with the Collective Agreement between the Oliver Parks & Recreation society and the Canadian Union of Public Employees Local #608.

Shifts will be various hours between 6:00am-9:00pm (Monday to Sunday). Rate of pay is $16.39-$19.02/hour depending on experience and qualifications, plus 4% in lieu of vacation.

Candidates must possess current certification in the following: National Lifeguarding Service (NLS), Red Cross Water Safety Instructor (WSI), Standard First Aid and CPR C. Preferred candidates will also possess Lifesaving Instructor, BCRPA Fitness, and WHMIS.

SUN FUN LEADER

An employment opportunity exists with the Oliver Parks and Recreation Society for (four) Sun Fun Leaders for the 2017 season.

JOB SUMMARY
This position requires skills in public relations and leadership since it involves working with children between the ages of 5 and 12 years. A high level of organizational ability is necessary since the position involves the planning, initiating and supervision of Sun Fun and its related programs. To be able to plan a varied recreational playground program, the incumbent must be innovative in the planning process. Careful and constant supervision of participants is essential. The Sun Fun Leader will be under the direct supervision of the Sun Fun Coordinator.

REQUIREMENTS
• Proven leadership skills
Demonstrated ability to work with children in a variety of activities including drama, music, sports, arts and crafts and more
• Ability to deal courteously and tactfully with the general public, parents, participants and co-workers
• Understanding and adhering to established safety policies and procedures

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS:
• Be at least 17 years of age
• Applicants must be students attending school full time and returning to either secondary school or college/university in the fall as a full time student
• Experience in dealing effectively with children
• Certification in Child Saver, CPR or other safety/first aid related course is required

HOURS
This CUPE position is 40 hrs/week from June 26th, 2017 – September 1st, 2017.

COMPENSATION
$13.46 an hour

SUN FUN COORDINATOR

An employment opportunity exists with the Oliver Parks and Recreation Society for a Sun Fun Coordinator for the 2017 season.

JOB SUMMARY
This position requires skills in public relations and leadership since it involves working with children between the ages of 5 and 12 years in addition to coordinating and supervising a number of Sun Fun leaders. A high level of organizational ability is necessary since the position involves the planning, initiating and supervision of Sun Fun and its related programs. To be able to plan a varied recreational playground program, the incumbent must be innovative in the planning process. Careful and constant supervision of participants is essential. The Sun Fun Coordinator will be under the direct supervision of the Recreation Supervisor.

REQUIREMENTS
• Proven leadership skills
• The ability to develop an innovative program based on past experience with Sun Fun or a similar program
• Ability to deal courteously and tactfully with the general public, parents, participants and co-workers
• Effective decision-making skills and the ability to work as a member of a team
• Ability to inventory program supplies and prepare a list of equipment needs to be approved by the Recreation Supervisor

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS:
• Be at least 17 years of age
• Applicants must be students attending school full time and returning to either secondary school or college/university in the fall as a full time student
• Experience in dealing effectively with children
• Babysitting and or coaching experience is a definite asset
• Certification in Child Saver, CPR or other safety/first aid related course is required

HOURS
This position is 40 hrs/week from June 15th, 2017– September 1st, 2017.

COMPENSATION
$16-18 an hour (wage based on experience and education)
