INTRODUCING STICK CURLING - new at the Oliver Curling Centre this season!

No it’s not hockey. The game is curling with push sticks. Teams consist of two persons, one throwing curling stones down the ice in one end and the other throws them back in the next end. Simple enough, but a lot of unexpected things can happen.  Scoring is done the same as in regular curling. There are differences, limited sweeping is allowed, but is discouraged! No longer do you have to listen to your skip yelling “Sweep”! No sweepers in the house admonishing you that you are light, wide or heavy. Not nice things to say to you anyway.

Stick curling games are only six ends and each curler only pushes 6 stones each end. Also known as "sturling" you can get more information about the sport by visiting www.curlbc.ca/programs/stick-curling or www.sturling.net.

Games are quick, only takes one hour and there is never a dull moment. All you need is clean pair of running shoes and a push stick. But you don’t need to buy a push stick as the Oliver Curling Centre has them available.

There will be a mixed stick league forming in October at the Centre. You can call and leave your name at 250 498 2244. We will be starting the season off with a Stick Bonspiel on November 5, so you won’t have long to wait for our first fun event. But, we have a better deal. Just come out to our Social and Registration night on September 23 at 7:00 PM. You will meet stick curlers and curlers from all our other leagues.

Even if you decide it’s not for you, we know you will enjoy the friendliness of our curlers and that can’t be a bad thing. Everyone is welcome so come check us out at the Center located between the Arena and the Hospital.

FAMILY CURLING - NEW

9 years and up
Take advantage of this unique opportunity where families can be active together
on ice and learn the fundamentals of curling in this fun new league at the Oliver
Curling Centre. Teams of 4, made up of at least one adult and at least 2 youth
aged 10 years and older, will gain experience throwing rocks, sweeping and
learning about strategy and scoring but most of all have a great time together.
Sliders, brooms and rocks are provided, participants must wear clean shoes.
