“Uncork the Sun” and kick off the start of the summer wine festival in Oliver on Thursday, July 7. From 6-10pm in Oliver Community Park discover the exciting outdoor concert and wine tasting event hosted by Oliver Parks & Recreation in partnership with the Oliver Osoyoos Wine Association (OOWA) and the Oliver Tourism Association (OTA). The Uncork the Sun event is the official fundraiser for the Oliver Sunshine Festival, which provides 2 days of free entertainment for the whole family July 8-9. “It will be a pleasure to showcase the 39 wineries of Oliver Osoyoos Wine Country at this annual event that draws both locals and visitors, says OOWA Executive Director Tony Munday. “RUMBLE100”, a premier party band from here in the BC Interior, will be taking the stage to entertain and get people celebrating. In the short time since its formation, RUMBLE100 has rocketed to the forefront of the Okanagan party scene, accelerated by its high-energy performances and popular song selections. This band delivers a sing-out-loud brand of rock music intended to captivate a crowd and keep them partying all night long. The set list for the four-piece rock and classic rock cover band encompasses a wide range of song favourites, from AC/DC and Tragically Hip to Lady Gaga and Bruno Mars.
Concert-goers can enjoy the live entertainment while sipping various locally produced wines and brews plus witness and taste the results of the 3rd Annual “Top Dog” Culinary Challenge where defending champion Farm Chef Derek Uhlemann (Covert Farms) will go head-to-head with another local chef to each create their signature hotdog featuring locally sourced ingredients. Gates open just before six and the chefs will have just an hour to prepare the hot dogs and condiments/sides for service before being asked to introduce their “dog” by name and describe their dish to the hungry crowd. After everyone including a panel of judges enjoys what’s been prepared, votes will be cast and one chef will earn the title of Oliver’s Top Dog.
Tickets for the Uncork the Sun event are just $30 for adults, $15 for students and children under 8 are free. Tickets include a souvenir wine glass, 3 tasting tickets, gourmet hot dogs and live entertainment. A limited number of tickets are available for the event, tickets can be purchased in advance at the Oliver Visitor Centre and the Oliver Community Centre or at the gate while they last.
